Horses are a valuable resource: the fastest land transport, sturdy in the fields, and strikingly beautiful to look upon. As such, Master Helmuth found his skill with breaking the beasts to be in high demand in this part of the country where gold couldn't buy much, but could buy a healthy horse and the means to train it well. A reputable man in his occupation was secure indeed.
